Covid Policy

Following the Government’s announcement to move to Living with Covid, we have considered guidance from the Department of Education and the approach adopted by local schools.  Full details are included in the policy attached.

Starting at Pre-School

We want your child to feel happy and safe at our Pre-School. To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how best to help your child to settle in. We have a policy about helping children to settle into the Pre-School and will discuss this with you upon your child starting.

You will be offered a visit before your child starts, where you will both be introduced to the staff and your child will be given time to familiarise themselves with the surroundings. Your child will have a key person within our setting, who will support you and your child.

At Pre-School your child will learn to play with other children, trust new adults, experiment in all sorts of ways and become more independent. Please do not be discouraged if your child does not bring activities home immediately. Your child may need time to gain confidence and with this, their skills will grow.

Pre-School provides protective clothing for the children for really messy activities but it is advisable to dress your child in older clothes since they may still get dirty. Please provide spare clothes in your child's daily bag in case a change of clothing is required, and ensure all coats, hats, shoes and clothing are clearly named. If your child is still in nappies, please ensure there are spare nappies, wipes, and cream if needed, in their bag.

Pre-School encourages children to gain the skills which help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet, washing their hands, and taking off and putting on outdoor clothes. Clothing and shoes which are easy for them to manage themselves will help them to do this.

We do go outside every day, whatever the weather! Please ensure your child has a warm waterproof coat, waterproof trousers or all-in-one, and a pair of wellies at Pre-School - all clearly named please! Wellies and waterproofs can ideally be left at Pre-School. Also, in hot sunny weather, please make sure your child has a sunhat and adequate sun protection at all times. Sun cream should be applied before attending Pre-School in the morning and a bottle (labelled with you child's name) left for reapplying during the day.

Please ensure all items of clothing and belongings are clearly labelled with your child's name! You can order personalised name tags from and help us raise funds.

Pre-School Uniform

If you wish to do so, you are able to purchase T-shirts, sweatshirts, fleeces, hats and bags with our Pre-School logo on. These items are reasonably priced and easy to wash and dry; therefore ideal if your child has a habit of coming home messy! Please speak to staff for more information, or find a uniform order form on the Parents Table in the lobby.

What To Tell Us

Please notify the staff immediately if:
  • Your child is unable to attend Pre-School

  • You change your address/telephone numbers, especially your emergency contact numbers

  • A different person is collecting your child

Stoke Goldington Pre-school hopes that you and your child enjoy being members of the Pre-School and that you both find taking part in our activities interesting and stimulating. The staff and committee are always ready and willing to talk with you about your ideas, views or questions.

If you wish to speak to your child's Key Person or the Manager, please mention this when you drop off your child and we can arrange a convenient time to talk, in private if necessary.

Leaving Pre-School

Most children leave Pre-School when they move up to First School, but if you need to take your child out of Pre-School earlier than this you must inform us at the earliest opportunity.

We require a full half term's written notice otherwise fees will be charged in full. This allows Pre-School to be as effective as possible in the allocation of places, maintaining our staff:child ratios, and planning for activities/resources.
